Top marks for the lighting conditions

The teacher comes into the classroom and switches on the light. At the end of the day, they leave the classroom and switch off the light. Or not.
This is still standard in many school buildings, consumes elec­tricity unnec­es­sarily and generates corre­sponding costs.
With the True Presence presence detector from STEINEL, you can save energy without having to sacrifice ideal lighting condi­tions. On the contrary: True Presence sensor tech­nology, combined with semi-auto­matic constant light control, is ideal for teaching and learning. Although the light adapts to daylight, it can still be adjusted manually at any time. And when school is out at the end of the day and the classroom is empty, the light switches off automatically.

How the inter­action between intel­ligent presence detection and manual oper­ation works

Solution

The Hebel school building in St. Georgen is a good 120 years old. Although the lighting in the class­rooms had not yet had quite so many years under its belt, refur­bishment was essential in connection with the overall reno­vation of the venerable building.
With the True Presence presence detector, we were able to fully fulfil the desire for a combi­nation of sensor tech­nology and constant light control. The needs of the teachers were also met. With the semi-auto­matic constant light control, they have the option of oper­ating the light manually at any time using push-buttons, i.e. switching it on and off or dimming it. Three control­lable groups are available: Wall panel, window side and wall side.
Together with the planner, we discussed the posi­tioning of the sensors and accom­panied the commissioning.

The True Presence tech­nology is based on the finest high-frequency measure­ments of the surroundings. This enables the presence detector to recognise the presence of a person, regardless of what they are doing. Micro-move­ments such as breathing or slight shoulder move­ments are suffi­cient to register presence.
True Presence provides digital infor­mation about presence or absence, elim­i­nating unnec­essary run-on times. This in turn has an extremely positive effect on elec­tricity costs. Whereas with previous sensor models you also had to buy a remote control, here every­thing can be controlled via an app.
